Brought Home Another 84 200es - Am I Losing it?

Heard about this beast that's been sitting under a spruce tree since early 2000. Same old story; ran when parked, needs a battery, yata, yata, yata....... Got it for $450. I only paid that much because the front tire was new, the rears appeared OK ,the rear fenders are intact and the seat is original and decent. The front fender is cracked and I'm not too impressed about the plastic tank but it works. Lights and front and rear foot brake works too! Turns out I'm now the third owner (I know the first two guys) and it was a moose hunting rig all it's life. I was pleasently suprised to see 13.5" wide Dick Cepek Spider Tracs on the back. Both are tubed but one was flat and cracked in the sidewall a bit, bummer. It'll still work tubed up again. A quick carb clean and spark check and off it ran with the pull start. Holy crap does it run strong and shift nice. I hate to admit it runs better than my current 84. Gotta figure out the electric start issue and sort out the seized rear brake cable. Still need to decide what I'm doing with it, keep it, flip it, who knows? Theres an older lady at our campsite that is having trouble turning her hubby's 450 Foreman due to a shoulder injury. I might offer it to her for cost. This project will take a little bit of time and hopefully no more money than the cost of a battery. Here's the before and after from a ride and power wash. Not sure why it has a gold rim? BTW my cat approves!

That cleaned up nice for sitting under a tree for 15 years! Around here 15 years in the weather makes a parts machine. Nice score for sure.

Hard to believe I know! It was a very large tree which kept most of the snow/rain and sun off it. There are some globs of sap I'll need to remove. WD-40 works well with that stuff. I'm surprised the plastic/seat held up so well. We have a fairly dry climate which helps too. Every bolt came loose with no problems at all so far.

Nice find . My 200es , found in a barn , had Gold rear rims , with a red pin stripe . I'm the 3rd owner . have title to prove it , and the two guys before me say it was all stock .

Looks like this rig will be going to that lady I mentioned in my first post afterall. Her and her husband are pretty excited about it. The electric start issue turned out to be a dirty/weak starter button. Have to press it just right to make it work. Have to figure out if I can service it? I won't make a buck but she'll get this for around $700 all in including paint. Looks like all I need to buy is a battery (Yuasa) $70, air cleaner foam $35 (Honda), rear brake cable $35 (Motion Pro) and get one tire tube replaced $50.

Nice find! No your not losing it... I had six of them parked at once in a garage here, although they weren't all mine since some of them were customer projects... LOL

The 200ES is still my favorite model, owned one when i was but a wee little trike myself, now i can't get enough of them when i am actually old enough to buy em and fix em.

Quick question... What model Yuasa battery are you putting in these? The battery in my 200ES daily driver is going weak again, really ticking me off actually. Some days it will start just fine, some days i have to use the decomp and listen to it slowly crank away. I know its the battery once again because i hook up my jump pack and everything is right as rain again. I'm about to mount a battery box on the rack and toss in a real battery. I swear all the brands of ATV batteries down here in the states are crap and made by the same company. The battery in there now is a AGM battery that i raved about for nearly a year, really good performer, then this spring it just started going to crap, takes a full charge with the motor running most of the day doing jobs with it, and the battery maintainer will say its fine after about 20 mins of plugging it in, but put a load tester on it and it falls flat on its arse... Ugh

I'm not sure about the model, I'll have to look. Thats too bad you haven't had success with them. I'm on the 2nd one in each of my 1998 quads (6000 miles on each) and the one in my original BR is five years old with no issues. My machines do sit in a heated garage though.

Update. The new owners are supposed to come look at it tomorrow. To break even I'll need $800 not including labor which I donated for free. Turns out that gold rim had the right bolt pattern but the centre hole was too small. It also ended needing a battery, both hand brake cables, a rear axle seal, a reverse indicator bulb, a taper washer on the rear axle and a starter button. Brake shoes and bearings were all good. I was able to scrounge up a few missing parts I needed from my supplies to keep the costs down. The steering head was so loose I wondered how the ball bearings didn't disappear and the front forks are a bit loose but still serviceable. I also had to modify a heat shield to fit from some other model. This thing runs and shifts so good I almost hate to get rid of it.
