250r and 350x questions

Can anyone on here who currently owns/has owned both a 250r and a 350x chime in on what they like about each trike? If you own both, which one do you ride for what reasons? And if you only own one, why did you get rid of it?

I've been riding an 85 250r for practically all of my life but I'm interested in what the 350x has to offer comparitively. Plus, who doesn't love a good thumper?

The 350x is an awesome trail machine. Tons of low end grunt to just cruise the trails and plenty of power. Not as fast as an R but fast enough.

I have owned both but I really like my 350x. Have always been a 4 stroke guy. Both are great machines but I just love the torque of the 350.

I currently own both an 85R and an 85 350X and honestly love them both for completely different reasons.

I have only owned my X for a couple of months, but have put quite a bit of saddle time in over the last few weeks. Our property has a great mix of trails and wide open pasture which really showed me what this machine is made of. It is right at home in the woods (even in the tight stuff) and I can honestly say that it is a better fit than my R on the trails. (For me that is). Out in the open, this thing really shines too. Although it can't touch the R in arm ripping, all out top end speed...it is still a blast to ride. It has a ton of low end grunt, manageable midrange and a very healthy dose of top end speed. Oh...it will wheelie in damn near every gear w/out the clutch or major revs...very nice.

Since you own one, I won't bother with a review of the R which is simply a thing of beauty. I love this machine! It just simply RIPS!!!

Like I said, two completely different machines...and they are both fantastic! Now that I have both, I can't possibly think of parting with either.

I'm thinking of owning a 350x one of these days. I've heard many good things about them.

I've never owned an r but have an 86 tecate and a 85 350x. My brother had an 86 r. He rode mine and likes it so i guess close enough. When i want to jump i ride the tecate. 350x is wheelie machine and good trail rider. Yeah tecate and r track bikes light weight.

I have an 86 250r and my brother has an 86 350x. I have ridden both mostly on trails. I think it comes down to 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. Go with what you are comfortable with. You can't go wrong with either.

Stock to stock, only the R is MX ready.

The 350X is an incredible piece of work; Somehow the motor is even better than a 400EX.

Lots of power down low and a long range throughout the throttle range with some mods. I can stuff mine in 3rd while barely crawling, clutch it and there's no hesitation.

Now that we can have the best suspension out there, I'm a 350X fan.....

I own both, (see sig) and completely agree with everything said thus far. Although the 350x "technically" belongs to the wife, I have a fair bit of seat time on it and other 350x's in the past.

One thing I haven't seen said yet is how the 2 compare in the chassis and suspension department, which has a great effect on handling. Between the 2 and in my opinion, the R is more natural when pitching sideways at speed than the X. It just feels right. Or should I say, more "right" than the X. Don't get me wrong, the X is a great machine for playing around like that, I just feel the R is better. The R fells like it has a lower COG and is more stable, smooth, and predictable at high speed.. I don't have specs memorized so don't crucify me if there are some numbers that would indicate otherwise.

And one thing the X definitely has the advantage in.. And I don't mean to parrot previous input, I just feel it is very much worth mentioning again... The X is just a much more trail friendly machine in the tight goat trails in the woods. Low RPM lugging, free-air cooled, and overall just better trail manners than the R. My R's like wind through the rads to stay cool, especially the Big Bore. The 350x as said earlier is a formidable high performance runner to boot. It certainly is a Jack of all trades! But there are trades the R is the master of...

I don't think you would ever regret getting a good 350x in your stable... Heck, my longest standing burning desire still remains for a nice 2nd gen 200x! IMHO the undisputed king of just plain fun factor for the trails ever packed into one model of ATV on 3 wheels or 4!

I always take my 250r and one of my 350x's when I go out for the weekend. And I always seem to put way more seat time on my 350x. I ride the R when we want to go shoot the big hills. But if we are going for a trail ride, the X is my choice. Plus I can go 3 times as far on a tank of gas with the X.

My X and my R are both 85s.

I love the 2 stroke hit - especially in the sand. I like the feel of sitting "in" the R vs "on" the X.

The X is much less demanding to ride and sometimes, that makes it a better choice than the R.

My X has been more reliable, too. And burns less gas.

If I could only have one though it would probably be the R. But I think that's because I rode it last.

Thanks! I got that statement from my dad. 74 years old and still gets seat time on the 350X. He had both an X and an R 30 years ago, too.

The Tecate is NOT his favorite, though he did ride it!
