Wasnt sure if they were made still. Thought epa made them illegal when they banned the banshee in 2006.

Manufactures can still get around the EPA requirements in certain states by labeling there product "for closed course racing only". I own a 2001 yamaha super jet (a 701cc 2 stroke pwc). They still make a 2016 701 superjet, but it now comes with the "for closed course racing only" decal on it from the factory. It puts the liability onto the buyer, In WI anyway. Closed course racing is exempt from EPA standards here.

Down here it seems the 300 2 strokes are gaining popularity. They represent half the newer bikes at our enduro track these days. A couple years back most guys had 450's. My buddy wanted to buy a 2016 300XC at the end of February: SOLD OUT. The KTM dealers here are now taking deposits on the 2017 300 smokers.

Now if only wearing your jeans higher than your underwear would come back into style...

The EPA hasn't "banned" anything. They have however made fleet/product lineup emissions standards more stringent though. The result of which being that most manufacturers have put all of their eggs in the 4-stroke basket.

While there aren't any 2-stroke ATV's in production currently as far as I am aware, as Mr. Camexican mentioned, KTM is still in the game, and I THINK Yamaha still offers 2-stroke powered YZ bikes as well. Also, the world of snowmobiles still has alot of compliant 2-stroke machines from Cat, Polaris, and Doo with Yamaha being the only sled maker to completely abandon the 2-stroke mill. Doo just released an all new 850cc ETEC 2-stroke twin for their sleds to replace the old 800 ETEC.

    Yes, 2-strokes are still produced.....

    '86 ATC 350X
    '85 ATC 350X
    '84 ATC 200ES Big Red
    '84 ATC 125M
    '85 ATC 110
    '85 ATC 70/110

Its unbelievable how much more efficient design the two stroke is over a four stroke. Blah blah "blue smoke and unburnt fuel" and all that considered its still more efficient.

Its a shame this has been disregarded by the low-information weekend environmentalists. I wonder if they factor in the maintenance requirements of the two and the environmental impact in making valves, guides, springs, chains, cams, tensioner, valve guides, spring retainers, etc. as compared to the environmental impact of maintaining and manufacturing two reed petals and a cage with a few screws.

IMO, from a physics/ engineering viewpoint, the four stroke engine seems like a step backwards. You want to evolve to using the simplest design requiring the least amount of parts to achieve the same ends.

I'm truly baffled by some of these activists.....ignore Fukushima dumping tons of radiation into the Pacific for five years now while bitching that "climate change is eating the skin off the sea lions, giving sharks tumors, and other numerous oddities". s.

everyone but honda makes 2 strokes yet, most are small 85cc.

Yamaha KTM and Husky are you top contenders anymore. Does is really matter if any are still made? Most guys on here are not gonna spend $7,000 for a new smoker when not much has changed in the smoker world since 1996 at least for the YZ line up.

However back in the late 60's when MX was starting everything was 4 stroke......funny now people piss a moan they took my 2 strokes...things just happen in stages. Manufactures make more 2 strokes today then they did 10 years ago and thats not really a lie either.

BOO HOO we lost CR's and RM's and full size KX's Find a blown up AF thumper and put an old motor in...

I honestly didn't know they were still produced. I never see "new" bikes anymore that are 2 strokes
