    i killed my trike today.

riding the river, hitting the sand hills, little bit of trail riding, all fine.get ready to leave for the house got about half way home and it dies, kick it and no compression.pulled out tool kit readjusted the valves, kicked it over again still no compression.havent had a chance to check out the head gasket.about six months ago it ate a cam and some rockers bc wasnt getting enough oil to head,im defintely going to run a tube to the head to oil the cam this time around.

Thats not necessary.... Something is wrong......No tube is needed!!

Cam and rockers die from dirty or low oil and dirty or improperly installed oil filters. There are no other immediate problems the 350X motor has other than the oil pump wearing out and SWIGIN posted that a 300EX pump can be bought NEW and with a gear change it's perfect.

Oil pumps wear out, esp due to poor maintenance.... Honda made a great motor, I beat the ever livin snot out of mine and haven't bothered to install one of my crate motors because I can't kill my original motor.

What did you determine to kill the motor the last time??

Is there any silicone or gasket maker of any kind on the valve cover? My money's on someone used silicone and the oil hole for the cam got plugged.

i rebuilt the motor so i know there isnt any gasket maker on it.i think the reason it ate a cam the last time was bc i was going up alot of steep hills and the cam wasnt getting enough oil.i was thinking it was the oil pump but if it was then it would died months ago.i ride my trike almost everyday.when i rebuid the motor this time i will use a new oil pump and the mod too.

IDK what kind of hills your climbing, but look at the dunes and at Glamis?? There are huge hills everywhere without this going on. Sounds like something else is at fault unless you live 8 miles up a mountain and travel it daily

Don't take me the wrong way, I'm just trying to figure out whats going on there...........................................

Yeah, it ain't the hills fault. Sounds like it's time for a new oil pump.

My bad.... I ASSUMED it was a 350X.

But that tells me something else is wrong even more so now, I've never heard of a 200X having oil starvation problems.

I have heard it about the 85 350X though and thats why it was changed in 86.

I know there are a few 86 200X pumps left but not sure about the 85 engines. I'm willing to bet that oil pumps are one of the biggest overlooked problems when rebuilding a thumper.........
