cant get an answer please help

have a 1980 Honda ATC 110 and the head is bad. I have found another head for it, but it has the CDI ignition system on it. my question is will the points system swap out of my old head into the new one? If not will the CDI ignition work on my 110? Before the head goes on, I plan on putting in a cam from dratv.com. Also will my points work with this cam?

I know the cdi won't work on the points trike unless you have the whole cdi wiring harness. I can't tell you if the points will swap into the cdi head either. Sorry I can't help you on that part. Have you tried doing a search? Above this thread there is a header that is list user cp, faq, etc. Click on search and type in swap 110 points for cdi or something like that and see what you come up with.

To use a the head you will need to use the 80 110 cam, and such. You can't use the CDI set up. The CDI style cam is longer than the points style cam. But the main basic head will swapout without a problem.


Changing to CDI: it's pretty hard to change a 1980 110 over to CDI set up. The biggest problem is changing Stator assembly. You have to change the backing plate, stator, crank ( 95% sure of this ), flywheel, pull starter, wiring harness, all electronics, ect. Royal P.I.T.A.

from what i remeber messing with mine is that the heads are the same but for either ignition system you need the cam and harness for that system.

the cdi/points covers and houseings will fit either head as well.

You can use the CDI cam with points. You have to cut down the shaft about 6 mm then the points advancer will work. All the points side covers will fit the CDI head.
