NEW DynoPort Tri-Z Pipes and Silencers!!!!

As you all know, I had DynoPort build a pipe for my Tri-Shee project a few months back. When I went to pick up Trish, I dropped off a Tri-Z for Rich and Rob to build me a few pipes around. Now..., I have run SEVERAL different Tri-Z pipes over the last few years, and I know what I DON'T LIKE about most of them...Here are some common issues-

1)NONE of the Tri-Z pipes seal to the cylinder worth a , unless you glob a bunch of copper rtv on the exhaust spigget... every couple rides!
2)Toe clearance...Yes, I have huge feet, which def affects the amount that this can be an issue, but it seems that my toes hit the bottom of most pipes when I upshift...and I run my shifter pretty low...
3)Almost every Tri-Z with an aftermarket exhaust sytem on it, has a melted spot in the rear fenders where the stinger has gotten TOO close.
4)Most aftermarket Tri-Z silencers , stick out WAY TOO FAR for my liking. I like a silencer to be tucked up under the fenders, not hanging out next to the pull bar like ALL of the DG systems (sorry if you like the DGs...But I think they hurt performance over a stock pipe, and are generally worth more $ in scrap!...IMO.)

So, When I ordered the pipes from Rich, I specified a few things I would like to see done different, than some other manufacturers.

1)O-Ring exhaust flange (just like the banshee pipes use) so no more RTV!!
2)More of a low boy pipe, to get the expansion chamber out a bit further from the shifter
3)they MUST have PLENTY of fender clearance at the stinger, especially with everyone purchasing $500 in aftermarket plastics for their Zs.
    4) the silencers need to be as tucked under the fenders as possible.
    5)Full hand coned.

Well, last night I picked up the first 3 DynoPort Tri-Z pipes that have been made in over 20 yrs! Here are my first impressions.

    1) NO O-RING FLANGE! When I asked about why they didn't have the o-ring flange on them, I was told "we must have forgot"...and that was it...no offer to make it right, just, "we must have forgot"...and a "well, we have had good luck with slip fits on the sleds". Yes, The slip fit is nice...WAY nicer than ANY other pipe I have tried to run, and it's tapered like the ex spigget, so a very thin coat of copper RTV will seal em completely...BUT, I ordered them with an O-RING SEALED FLANGE!.....
    2) It is definately more of a low-boy pipe than most. It looks to have at least an inch more toe clearance than my Jemco or LRD. VERY sporty look to it on the bike!
    3) Upon first view of one KINDA mocked up on a bike, they appear to have good stinger-fender clearance.
4)The silencer DOESN'T stick out 8 inches behind the fenders! But, we will see just how well they fit when I get one mounted on my wifes bike later today.
5)The pipes aren't full hand coned pipes...There is only about 6-8 cones in the pipe, the center wrap around portion is actually an old school 250 KTM stamping. Not that the pipe looks bad, but I expected more of a completely hand coned pipe (more like my LRD or Tri-Shee pipe), especially for the price!

I will be Installing one of these systems on my wifes bike later today, after riding it with a full DG system, then my LRD, then the DynoPort. That way I will have a REAL GOOD ride report/comparison by tonight. I LOVE my LRD, HATE my wifes DG...so we will see where the DynoPort falls!

Rich said this pipe should have a very broad powerband.
Anyway, here are some let me know what you guys think.

With stock forks, the fender CLEARS NICELY!!!!!! Not too sure how it will clear my invert front end, but who cares...I'll cut a bit off the fender if needed!

They look very nice but it sucks that with the money you spent they couldn't have made them exactly the way you wanted.

    Ride report

OK ok...First, I didn't run my wifes bike with the LRD today, as I have been riding an almost identically ported bike with the LRD on it for 5 years...I KNOW WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT!!! Not to mention, I spent all day in the garage swapping the Sprock head from my race bike to my wifes bike (changed the dome to a pump gas dome of course), and installing the new anodized blue Sprock head on my race bike (with 100 octaine dome). Also had to switch her carb back over to the 39PWK (had the stocker on it for the drags at TF). So here is the run down of mods on Amanda's bike:

69mm bore, wiseco NOS Pro-lite piston
Ported cylinder (basically a phase II wrenchreport, without the added boost port, and a nice clean-up/polish)
Sprock head with 93 octaine dome
    Sprock intake
    Sprock water pump impeller
Boyesen dual stage reeds on stock cages
39PWK Keihin carb (from a 98-2003 xc600 or 700)52 pilot, 165 main, CEL needle midle clip.
DG pipe and silencer (modded to keep the silencer from rubbing on the pull-bar)-FOR SALE!! PM me offers!
Banshee throttle assy. with Terrycable braided stainless cable

I ran both exhaust systems (complete DG and complete DynoPort) back to back on her bike with the same jetting.

The DG has, as Amanda puts it,"NO bottom end", with a very distinctive hit a bit too high in the RPM for my liking, then it seems to sign off early, without any over rev. The sound is that more of a 125 dirtbike pipe, very "buzzy" and no good "popcorn" sound out of it.

I then pulled the DG system off her bike and mounted up the DynoPort system. First, the fit and finish is bar-none! The pipe slid onto the cylinder nice and tight, the pipe mount lined up perfectly, and so did the silencer! No screwing around what-so-ever. The easiest exhaust system I have ever bolted on anything! The pipe is very tucked into the bike (the most I have seen) and provides plenty of room for getting off the side of the bike. First thing I noticed after firing it up, is how nice and "popcorn" pingy it sounds! Very "tinny" (for as heavy gage of a pipe as it is).

    The ride report:
You immediatley notice the difference over the DG. The DynoPort comes on sooner (without a heavy hit) and doesn't ever sign-off, supplying plenty of over-rev.I rode her bike around our circle track a few times with both exhaust systems. The DG struggled to break the tires loose and pull the corner in the midrange. With the DynoPort...I was actually grabbing gears through the sweeper!! The pipe performs good EVERYWHERE! MUCH more comparable to my LRD (wich I regard as the best Tri-Z pipe EVER)

Here are som pics of Amanda's bike with the complete modded DG system, and the DynoPort system... And some pics of my LRD on my trail bike. Notice how tucked in the DynoPort pipe and silencer both are!

Also, My wife, Amanda, rode the bike for a good 10-15 minutes with the DG system, and the DynoPort system...her opinions were the same as mine. She realy liked how smooth the DynoPort power delivery was over her DG, and also how much sooner the bike began to make good power...AND how much longer it pulled on top!

SO, ALL IN ALL, GREAT PIPE!!!

I really like how much it tucks in the last 2 pics...big difference. That seemed to be a problem for me shifting also with the dg pipe. I would be interested in one of those if it indeed wakes up the bottom end. I bet that would sound good slipped into my ole' cobra! lol........ Great work. Keep us posted.

Ok, so how much is your little buddy ready to send these off at? Would a group run better suit his needs? I don't know of many that would be ready to pay right off the bat, today. How about a winter job for this guy? It gives pleanty of people time to save and may help when he's a bit slower in his season. I can't imagine these are gonna come cheap as a DG. It's way more craftsmanship involved and worth the fit and bottom end improved performance, I'm sure. I'd like to get one but this is an item for me that isn't needed right away...as we all have pipes to run(even if we don't like em). Thanks for getting it done...just a thought on the pre-order/future run with a build date. Keep us posted and your thoughts please?
