Need some help from the 250r pros out there!

Or anybody that knows anything about them haha. There must be a thread about this.. but i couldn't find it.. Anyways I'll be getting an 85 250r frame and maybe an 85 swinger.. I'm looking to build it from the ground up. So basically I heard the 86 suspension is better and I'm wondering if the 86 forks will fit the 85 triples, and i'm wondering if the 86 rear shock will mount up to an 85 swinger?

While i'm at it to save a thread or 2 what CAN or CANT swap from the 2 years? Whichever list is shortest.

    Thank you!!

    Cody

As far as I know the only thing that wont swap over from 85 to 86 250r is the rear axle and bearing carrier. The 86 bearing carrier is bigger than the 85.Iv read that a 86 axle will work in a 85 but the 85 axle will not work in a 86.Most everthing else is innerchangable.

86 forks and rear shock will fit the 85 frame no problem... I've never heard a mention of 86 suspension being better than the 85's... But then again, I have an 86, so it doesn't affect me anyway.. lol.

So, you're building an Ebay 250r? I would think it would be WAAAAY more cost effective to find a beater for sale, and fix that one up. The big things are easy to find, its the little things, like grommets, hardware, electrical, brakes,, etc,,, that ad up.

Before I had my 86, I thought about building it. Did a rough tally with current Ebay prices, I would be up well over 4000 by the time I had everything,,, and would still need to make it look pretty. So i chose to buy one for a decent price, and make it pretty. Now my wallet is happy, and so am I..

yea that was my plan.. I knew it would be expensive.. I guess i'll have to do a rough estimate like you did. Only reason I was planning on doing it this way is because each check I can buy a thing or two.. as i'm not very good at saving up 1500 to 2 grand haha. Either way I decide to go I haven't lost money yet as i've got everything at very good prices.

Yea.. i was pricing it.. all i had was axle, carrier, swingarm, and shock and was already over 500 bucks lol. I guess i'll have to do my best to save up my money. I'll still keep the frame and extra parts I got and maybe pick up a piece or two here and there from here whenever i see there cheap.
