Throw a leg over a 2013 or newer 300cc 2 stroke bike if you get a chance. The hit is gone , but the torque is amazing .

So a 1 degree increase in ocean temp equals a 10 degree increase in air temp? I see

So you don't trust the sh!t the government shovels down our throats every day, EXCEPT what they feed you about climate change? Got it!

Last year Obama visited a glacier that Alaska has been tracking the melting of since 1815. 1815! No cars, no factories, no bullshit. You do realize that glaciers have been melting since the end of the last ice age, right?

What does how they build cars now have to do with how long you sit in traffic? That's the amount of cars dood, not how they're built.

It all depends on the bike you buy. My buddy just picked up a 2016 Beta 300 2 stroke, because he likes to trail ride. There are 2 directions you can go, I think you are referring to the enduros. The KTM XC's still pack a punch, as well as the YZ's, that are both more geared towards motocross.

It's all about what a thing "looks like" fellas..

DPF systems on diesel trucks because people get all nutted up about a couple quick puffs of smoke out of a big rig the first time up through the gears as the truck gets started on it's day. Diesels have been cleaner burning than your average 8cyl gas engine since the early '90s. How much fuel is wasted with no productivity when a truck has to go through a parked manual re-gen??? It takes about 15 minutes at 1500 rpm to do a parked manual re-gen. How about trucks that find themselves sitting on the side of the interstate, placing life, limb, and property in danger, losing productivity due to DPF system failures. Think of the lost productivity, cost of repairs, and fuel burned by the tow or roadside repair truck. All of these new expenses because a truck that would otherwise have never broken down and kept moving down the road finds itself sitting on the side of the road with a DPF system failure. I would love to see some statistics on the cost of DPF system failures industry-wide including the ripple effect of cost to customers whose freight is delayed.

But it's all ok now boys and girls, those evil big rigs don't puff smoke the first 4 gears they grab as they start their day any more!

I see more and more signs posted stating "no smoking, including electronic cigarettes" these days. E-cigs are harmless in terms of "secondhand" exposure. But that matters not to the leftist progressive tyrants, it's all about the optics regardless of the facts. It's now taboo to even appear to be smoking.... Then they try and skew the facts with agenda driven "studies" to bolster their position. I am a 20 year smoker. E-cigs have helped me to quit the real cigs and I am thankful to have them. I no longer feel the daily effects of smoking any more that I experienced smoking Marlboros! But still, I am to be treated like some sort of second class citizen for using an e-cig. Everyone is all touchy-feely sensitive to anyone with an addiction, anyone that is except for the tobacco smoker. In that case you are just a dumb scumbag with no will power deserving of no sensitivity, but to be scorned.

Said all that to say this: it's all about what's popular or unpopular, what a thing looks like regardless of what facts say. And when you have a system like ours where we have allowed unelected, unaccountable agencies to wield nearly absolute regulatory power that are then packed with people who go in with some sort of personal agenda, this is the result. Won't be long before they start regulating everything you eat and drink. But don't worry, your government cares about your well-being! Just keep handing over your personal liberty in exchange for "security"......

Oh and back to the 2-stroke thing.... While Rotax is getting good results with their ETEC direct injection system, any of you guys familiar with what's going on in chainsaw world for emissions compliance???

Stihl and Husky both are implementing what they call "strato" porting and auto-tune carbs. Check out the strato porting... pretty smart if you ask me.. I don't know which Stihl models are running this off the top of my head, but in Husky check out the 550xp, 562xp, 372XP X-torq to name a few.... You will have to dig a little further than factory web pages. Saw groups like OPEforum.com, Arboristsite.com will net some results.

I have recently gotten into modding my saws, even started using a degree wheel to determine stock port timing and make intentional changes to it. It's a heck of alot of fun and I have been getting very good results! I can see myself porting a 250r cylinder not too far down the road after I get a little more experience and knowledge playing with my saws. I have been working on my 372XPW, 357XP, and will soon be doing my 394XP. I have gained 1200+rpm in the cut on 18" ash with my 372.

Very true and yes, I was referring to the enduros, but you can tune the exhaust valves on the KTM's (I assume the others as well) to act any way you want. I love an 80cc coming on the pipe type kick in the pants, but when you have to make 180 turn while going up a 45 degree slope it's nice to have some torque.

I was looking at some small low cost 2 stroke cast cylinders at a trade show last week. They had plastic inserts covering the transfer ports. Seemed like a neat way to get at the ports easily to mod them.

Hey if they would build an electric ATV with the same price, weight, characteristics, and didn't need recharged every 28 minutes then I'm all in.

But like you said, these people have a habit of turning up dead. Like those guys in the 40s and 50s who invented those water vapor carbs that got 250+ mpg in an old LaSalle or similar. Dead or bought out of business. A recent version for our younger members would be the mid 80s Honda CRX. Semi-sporty and got 50mpg.....now car companies advertise 35mpg like its a huge deal and to get MPG numbers like the good old fuel injected combustion engine in a CRX, you have to buy a hybrid now or a VW diesel. Going backwards instead of forward once again.

I'm confused now. I thought Glamy was agreeing with me. I said, and still do, "climate change" as a liberal invention is BS. Fukushima is what's f#$king up the Pacific and not smoky weedeaters and dirt bikes. The radioactive water used to cool the meltdown pile to keep it from blowing up again has been draining into the ocean for five years at the rate of several tons a day...a day....but the news ignores the fact that Japanese morons have potentially destroyed the Pacific habitat with dead wildlife washing ashore in the US daily. The only "explanation" offered by the Media Cabal is "man-made climate change". More about pushing the agenda of the Left and what they don't like rather than attend to THE real issue which is radiation equals death. No matter what. Death. If that ain't enough, the giant trash islands in the pacific from Japan and other countries adds another dimension.....meanwhile tree hugger hipster man girls and girl men are mad at your racism, microaggressions, and your ATVs because that's way more important that Pharma contaminating the whole US watershed or Tepco making glow in the dark Wright whales and salmon with two heads....you know why? Because these 'enlightened' dumbclucks get their 'education' from the usual media channels.

And RideRed, you're absolutely right about Ecigs. They aren't afraid of your second hand vapor or for your health. I have had more than one of them tell me themselves they were "pissed off" that "gross smokers have found a way around the law" and its THAT fact that creates their resentment. They were all smug and gloating until the Ecig showed up and it hurt their feelings and crushed their self esteem. See illustration.

It is really all about validation and winning to them disguised as altruism

I often wander places like the grocery store with an unlit cigar hanging from my mouth, or take one to the non-smoking tables in Vegas. I get a lot of "OMG!" looks and the occasional "Why do you have a unlit cigar in your mouth?" I usually respond that am a recovering homosexual and they leave me alone.

I'm thinking about buying a brand new KTM 250sx in the near future to go racing. The other option is a yz250. The yz looks 15 years old, but it's been updated mechanically. It has the better suspension, but KTM is a better handling bike, and only $140 more, you get all the KTM goodies on it. KTM still makes loads of 2 strokes, Yamaha makes a few.

The main difference today if you're buy a brand new bike is cost. 250sx msrp is just north of $7k. A new 450sx-f will set you back 9+. Off-road models are even more expensive.

Snowmobiles are still offered as 2 strokes, 3 cyls pushing 150+hp.

Wrong! There are no more triple cylinder 2-stroke sleds, the last triple 2-stroke died when Yamaha dropped the Viper line in about 2003 and went exclusively 4-stroke. All 2-stroke offerings for sleds are twin cylinder, single pipe, and the new Rotax 850 ETEC claims 165hp out of the box. Should be quite snotty... For about 5 years in the early 2000s, Ski-Doo offered the Mach-Z in a Rev "looking" chassis. It had a 1000cc twin cyl 2-troke with single pipe... That was a fast sled but had some reliability issues...

There are triple cylinder 4-strokes though... The Yamaha Apex 1100, Ski-Doo 1200 4-Tec, maybe one or two more. The rest are in-line or v-twins. The fastest production sled ever made is the current Cat Z1-Turbo.. A turbo charged 1100cc V-twin 4-stroke. North of 175hp and capable of 125mph+ in stock config. THAT is impressive!

Mr. Camexican: Yes on the removable transfer covers. They are present on quite a few of the newer Husky saws and make grinding in the transfer port windows a breeze. HOWEVER, they use the "tamper resistant" torx screws, which are fairly easily defeated with a dremel... Here is the bad part, at least with Husky...They use a fitted o-ring for the seal on the transfer covers.. Easy enough right??? Well yes, so long as the o-ring isn't damaged. If you find a broken o-ring and are not comfortable using a sealant you will have to buy a whole new cylinder.. Husky does not offer the o-rings separately, you have to buy a whole cylinder to get the o-rings. Stupid, I know... But they never intended for the transfer covers to be removed by the consumer, so that's why they don't offer them..
