    uh.....help, anyone.

ok, well, i got my cylinder back from being ported.......
long story short, it was damaged during return shipping, and the sleeve skirt broke when i was re-assembling it. the piston wouldnt slide back into the cylinder, it was out of round. upon further investigation, it was cracked and/or bent inwards.

    SO.
    i need a new sleeve for my 300 R, and i need it re-sleeved.
anyone here know where i can get a sleeve?
can anyone here re-sleeve it? how much?

i have the nearly new piston, and would like to use it to save a hundred bucks, so when re-sleeving, can it be worked to use the piston i have? it is on its first bore, so it wont be needed bored halfway out or anything.

and to top it all off, i will have to have it re-ported after it gets sleeved.

and i think the bottom of the sleeve skirt will have to be cut some because it was hitting the crank last time i tried to assemble it. but ill explain that more in detail later.

can anyone help me without breaking my bank? thanks!

    Are you kidding me?

It would take one hell of a hit to bend a piston skirt in... It only hangs down just a hair below the cylinder base. Was the box DESTROYED? Is there a huge ding on the outside of the exposed portion of the skirt??

Seems a bit far fetched to me........................................

Edit - "broke during reassembley" did you try to smash it back out of round?

well the piston wouldnt slide UP into the cylinder, nor would it slide DOWN out of the cylinder. i didnt have to "smash" them into place again, they broke off in my hand. so reguardless, it needs resleeved, bored to my piston, and reported.

You might try wiseco/lasleeve But I don't remember seeing one for the 300 hondaline. I always make sure to ask for insurance with shipping.

Thats a hell of a way to break. I've seen plenty of sleeve ears break loose but never quite like that...about like seeing a piece chip out of the MIDDLE of the sleeve on my R, but I digress.

My opinion is, as long as its in that present condition its safe to run. The instant it changes though, very very bad things will happen very very quickly

Sorry bud, didn't mean call you a "smasher"...lol

That sleeve looks porous or a cast sleeve and maybe the box was all smashed to hell??

I wouldn't chance running it myself. Did you contact the person that shipped it back??

If the sleeve broke that easy just holding it, imagine how it could fall apart once its in a motor with heat, vibrations, and such. I personally wouldnt risk running it, thats an engine just waiting to gernade itself.

well, dennis said when he recieved it, the skirt was poking out of the box a little, but it didnt look broken so he didnt think much of it.

the piston slides freely now, and i looked at ir for awhile, looking for cracks and such. it doesnt appear to be damaged, i lightly tapped on it to make sure it wasnt going to snap off due to drop damage.
i filed the rough edges down, and shes back together and running.

Dennis said tat some drag racers will actally cut the sleeve skirts off for more crankcase volume, and he sees those run for a few seasons without problems, so i took a chance.

Yeah, but they machine them off, they don't gt dropped and break off.

Your taking a huge gamble that there aren't any hairline cracks in there that could let go.

Hope it holds up for ya!

Just reminds me that I ask myself, WTF is so GD hard about packaging things well??!!

Amen to that! Seriously, take the time and maybe PAD the inside of the box, or use something other than tissue paper boxes when you ship it out...
