    Cam Chain Adjustment:200X

Just was reading the service manual for the 200X and it says to start the engine, let it idle until warm. Then loosen the bolt for the cam chain adjuster. The way its worded it sounds like you leave the engine running, is that right. Or should you start it, let it warm up, shut it off, then adjust?

You do leave it running....When I had my motor at my local honda dealer my mechanic told me how to adjust it and he said you do it while it's running.

Thanks Mike, I've always adjusted my 200x's with it running and it works great. If you ever take the whole assembly apart in the bottom of the motor it'll make more sense.

Do it while running. If it is a noisy chain you will hear it get quieter as you adjust it and be quite proud of yourself.

Thanks, I have a different manual than that. And it was real confusing cuz every street bike I have had you adjust it while it was shut off.

I adjust it while it's running. Sometimes I will take the nut/cover thing out and smack the center pin with a punch, the lock rings like to lock a little too well sometimes and not let the adjuster pin move like it should. A little force from a punch and a frees things right up.

You mean the little 10mm nut in the center and then use a punch in there?

Nope the big one that the little bolt goes into. Take it all the way out, it's almost like a threaded cap. Take the whole deal out and you will see the pin.

ALL theses cam chains and guides are shot.....

But, if you want to see how it all works, just take the left case cover off and you can see how it all works and either locks or free's itself...........
