I am ready to drive it off a cliff...

My Atc200es has problems coming out it ears but there is a huge problem that frustrates me.

    1. It has no engine braking.

    2. Sometimes on startup it makes a loud knocking noise on the pull starter side of the engine.
And when I turn it off there is this loud whinding down noise for a couple seconds and then a loud knock.

    3. Sometimes it has no spark at all and wont start other times it does.

    4. The neutral light doesnt come on but the bulb is fine and I can start it in gear which is extremely weird!

If anyone has any advide or a fix it would be much appreciated.

lol when i saw the title i laughed so hard.. and NO you can never purposely destroy a 3 wheeler =)

    1. No idea what engine braking is.. yes i know i'm stupid lol

    2. When i start my 3 wheeler up with the recoil it has a weird noise when the recoil goes back in.. no idea but nothing broke so far
    - the noise your hearing could be the starter.. my 200M started made a noise when I shut down the machine.. It went away when i took the starter off so i know its that for a fact.

    3. Have you checked the wiring harness? Anything loose??

    4. Once again have you checked the harness?? When i had my 200M i didn't have the key so I ripped the ignition part out and put the 2 wires together.. I never had a neutral light and could fire it up in 1st 2nd gear it didn't matter.

    Hello Aussie

You have posted question #1 three times now, below is the link to the latest one and excerpts of a few replies. When are you going to quit asking about it and just do what has been suggested? The answer to your last question in the posts below is in the link that is posted in a reply below. Is it too hard to click on the blue line and look at the photo?

I don't know if the 200es is the same basic setup as a 250es, but there is a one way bearing that commonly goes bad on the 250es's primary clutch. Side effects are no engine brake and the kick starter slips. Of course your pull starter won't be effected by it, but maybe that is what the engine brake problem is? Seems like it shouldn't go bad since it isn't used to start the engine like in the 250es setup.

If it accelerates fine AND idles in gear without engine stalling then your problem is most likely the one way bearing. See item 14 in link below. Also check item 4 and the inside of clutch hub where the bearing rides for damage.

Are you guys 100% sure? Because I have a spare one and dont want to take apart the motor again for no reason ..

Would you prefer another answer, sorry but not being there and not being psychic it's the only suggestion I personally have.

    XXXXX

Could this be the only possible problem?

Is this one way bearing behind the shoes?

    Hello Aussie

PLEASE USE THE MANUAL AND PARTS LINKS PROVIDED

STARTS IN ANY GEAR – Your neutral switch is constantly grounded, this allows oower to the start button full time. Either switch is bad or the cam that turns it on and off is bad.

NEUTRAL LIT E– Either you are wrong about the bulb or there is no power from the start button/neutral switch wire to the bulb. The wire color is lite green with a red stripe. Follow it down from the bulb to the connector. Make sure it is connected and connection is clean. See pg 18-5 in manual below.

"WHINDING" NOISE AFTER STARTING – It’s most likely your “recoil starter/alternator/ starter clutch”. See Pg 9-11 in OEM manual below.

    3. Sometimes it has no spark at all and wont start other times it does.

Could be caused by your neutral safety switch having an intermittent problem.

Does the START button always work?

Intermittent spark on these is almost always the damn CDI unit, i would try replacing that before you make it fly. Also replace the one way bearing or at least go through it. If nothing else sell it, dont wreck it.

    Deep breath.

I had 2 of those and one was perfect so I had KNOWN working parts to swap.
    (didn't help)

As it turns out, some people with this problem have replaced entire wire harnesses only to admit that the old one was probably ok but just because they had to go through EVERY connection, they now magically work.

kb know his stuff about the cdi btw.
I had no spark with the e start but ok with pull.
Drove me nutts and a little blind from memorizing the wire diagram.
I got rid of mine before I figured it all out.

You'll get it, we always do.
