Thanks for the links. I felt of the wires when I took the photos and they felt stiff. Not sure if they are or because was so fackin cold out so I will be checking them all out in days to come. I agree the coil isn't right. Starter appears correct though according to this photo.

nice score! take your time cleaning it and getting it working and soon you will have one very nice trike that will last lots more years. Please, don't just try to do a basic clean and run it into the ground. this one desires to be restored to normal operation. that means, replacing cables, properly cleaning tank, full carb rebuild, new fluids, replace chain for new (old is probably very rusty) new tires, (have wheels blasted and repainted), nre fluids all around etc.. I am not saying a showroom, but riding restore. it will work so much better and last much longer. Don't get stupid with it. the plastics are not replaceable. no aftermarkets or meiers are available. so only rude it EZ and softly unless you wanna have broken parts for ever.

Nice score. I was looking at one of these on my local craigslist a few months ago it was the frame, motor and frontend. I was going to put the motor in a 200x frame . I was thinking a 125 auto x would be cool.

Congrats on your score! PM me if it turns out you need a stator, I have a couple of spares. Also a spare electric starter.

I picked up a 1987 trx 125 and thought with a little luck the seat and exhaust would be interchangeable. This is not the case. I did get the wheel situation figured out though. I used hubs and rims off a 200s on the rear. Then on the front instead wof trying to change out the hub, I mounted a tire on a rear rim from the 87 trx125. Fit is perfect. I hate split rims and tubes as well.
Found this post from captainweezy searching around. Does anyone know if any other hubs or rims swap to a 86 Honda 125M? I got some tires for it now, but just wondering, because I'm not fan of split rims either. I have an old 87 Honda 200sx at another location an hour away I might try if anyone knows if that might work before I make the trip over.

Trickshot, I know the 200sx hubs will work on the atc 125. You can also use 200x/300ex/400ex hubs. All of these use a 4 on 110 pattern. The stock 200s hubs with the 4 on 130 pattern will also slide right on.

Kicking myself just a bit, I must have searched every 86 Honda 125M post today in search of this picture, because I remembered seeing it earlier. Just couldn't remember which thread it was in, and ended up being in my own thread..
What hub and rims are you using here Trike_crazy?

In that picture I was using 400ex wheels and hubs. The wheels have since been put on my dx225.

Are there specific years that work or do all years work for the 300ex and 400ex hubs to swap onto the 86 125m.

I think the only hubs that wont fit are the 85-86 250r and 350x bigger spline. I have a set of trx 300 2 wheel drive rear hubs on my 81 250r. Some years of the quadsport hubs fit aswell.

For the 400ex/300ex question, it can be boiled down to part numbers. Most likely the spine count/size didn't change but I haven't followed those models much.

    Part Number: 43120-HN1-A20
1999-2014 TRX400EX - (aka all 400ex years used this same part)

    Part Number: 42410-HC0-000
    1987-1992 TRX250X
    1993-2004 TRX300EX
1999-2001 TRX400EX (odd these are listed, but confirms there is little difference between this and the part above - could be further validated there is no difference in axle part number)

I suspect all of the machines above work fine, below might be possible non-working unless someone can confirm it works on one of them.

    Part Number: 42410-HM3-900
    2005-2008 TRX300EX
    2009 TRX300X

    Part Number: 42410-HN6-A20
    2005-2008 TRX250EX
    2009-2014 TRX250X

The last option is by FAR the cheapest... $40 per side. In-fact it is so cheap if this part works on any of our 3 wheelers, it should be the go to part to replace them unless you're trying to stick to OEM correct part. Used hubs generally go for $40+ per set.
