Thanks Mr.clean...luckily we have a strong tight knit community... Everyone was safe and healthy and thats what really matters in the end... We are in a valley controlled by a damn, that feeds nyc... Good thing that mountains surround us.. It makes it easy to find safe ground. Ive seen crazy ... 50ft semi trailers stuck in tree tops, houses in the middle of the road...bridges missing etc...

Those people could be wading through 20 inches of snow instead of 18 inches of water. Or both.
I saw them interview a guy wearing a Mercedes hat, complaining that BOTH of his houses were damaged..That was pretty shallow considering most people affected, may not even own one home to worry about, let alone 2 and a Mercedes..

I too have been through disasters...House fires, roofs blown open by fallen trees, roofs come off to freakish winds and even flooding. I do understand the weight of the situation and the anguish people are going through. It sucks, and once again I will state I offer my condolences to those folks.

My comments were more directed at the corporate marketing campaigns all in the name of profit, preluding the storm.
I know here where I live, they had people clearing shelves of flashlights, generators, can food, and water, and really in this area the media did not need to play it up like they did. That is what I was trying to convey in my statements.

And lets not also forget, about all the people from disasters past..Wildfires out west this year, Katrina, Joplin, and Japan..which was arguably the biggest disaster this planet has ever seen.

I appologize if my comments were mistaken for a lack of compassion to the victims. That was never my intent.

Secondly, it also means that they're going to have a NEW multi-million-dollar beach house shortly.
All I can say to that is, most of those aren't multi-million dollar homes, living on the beach is no different than living in Tornado Alley if you ask me... so hypothetically if you get wiped off the map next summer by a tornado, you have family members unaccounted for, your wet, cold and hungry without electric and running water, maybe your beloved family pet got whisked away by the wind and your truck is laying upside down in your pool, your going to be perfectly fine with me coming on here and saying "What a dumb fool, he should have known better, he was asking for it and got what he deserved"? ... That's what I thought! I've been through more storms than I care to remember, we lucked out on this one and dodged a bullet, we weren't so lucky with Isabel and Irene although we fared better in those than many of our friends an neighbors and we're about 100 miles inland so its not just the shoreline that takes the hit, not just the rich, storms don't discriminate and if you lose it all it doesn't really matter what you had before the wind and water came, whether you lived in a tent or a condo, if you lose everything you've got its gone and you pick up the pieces and start over. Its not easy for anybody no matter who you are.

good to hear you didn't get hit huffie. what most here don't understand is on the beach your house may be worth a mill plus when across the street it drops to 300- 500 thousand. cross the street again and it drops some more. but hey people please hate. it's not my fault you didn't play the game of capitalism well or made bad decisions in life but please hate on the others that have.
maybe i should hate those in the gulf states that get hit year after year and live below the flood plains. how about those fools that must live in tornado alley and cry like babies when a twister rolls through. why should i care when that 100 year flood hits the rivers in the mid-west, even though they tend to come year after year. and the same goes for the whiners with the droughts. you know whats even worse is those that live in the tinderbox zones. fire why should i care about some fires?
i'll tell you why because their Americans no matter what their homes cost. don't hate me because i've done so well hate yourselves because you haven't. i've done everything right and i'm sorry some of you haven't but please hate.
no my home wasn't a million but 260 thou. so hate me please. my mothers house may of been 1.6 million but she worked her whole life for it so please hate her too. please hate my employees with their 120-160 thousand homes. a little more than an Alabama trailer but hate them please.
hate chris christie for working with obama. the guys just doing his job for the state that elected him and a dam good one at that. so hate away people.
in a few days we'll be voting and from the looks of this site i'll be getting another tax break in which i'll say again please hate some more. hopefully we'll get rid of fema and any other government support for those who loose their homes. god forbid we help each other in bad times as it's better to have than not right??? it's the American way right? maybe the next time a tornado ripps through the mid-west an emergency crew will ask "how much you got" before giving you a hand. and if you have nothing than tough luck. i'm not asking for help i'll cover what i lost and my mothers too. but most of all i'll help others around me who can't and/or get screwed by their insurance. why because i'm an American and that's whats what real Americans do. well that's at least what i thought.
so hate away people it won't get you anywhere.
btw my house in mystic i bought a 2 years ago at an auction for my brother who's in the marines. tommy and julie had a home in Georgia but lost it because of the wars. his girl is in the army and a bill came before congress so service personal could get relief but was shot down as it had no tax breaks for millionaires. so i bought them a home for their wedding present in may. so hate them too for protecting this country and getting screwed in the end. yep thats America folks a bunch of haters

As a matter of fact I sure have:

    http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...rice-na-500000

You don't get much more beach front than the Outer Banks, if it wasn't for the lack of commercial construction I would have moved there years ago... yes even though it takes a hit at least every three years. But I'm pretty sure you missed the point I was trying to make, that being that every hundred yards inland the price drops off, sure there are alot of expensive houses but there are alot more that arent

Oh wow. I've priced beach front property, but never outside of Mass. I should have taken into account how much cheaper every place else is. Those are some really good prices.

Levi, I'm not sure if you're missing the point here or just looking for a chance to brag. Either way I'm not sure what to make of you. Some of us do better than others. You can point your finger at everyone else and call them haters, but what you don't see is how arrogant you're coming off. I do just fine in life financially, but I would never talk down to people the way you are. But hey, maybe I would too if I were brought up a rich boy.

fabio you tend to talk down to a lot of people and are arrogant too. no one gave me a thing in life i've worked 18hrs a day for the last 15years for it. what i should sit by and hear this bs "well i saw a guy with a benz" so what. he earned it. are you not the one who screams "oh is me i'm a landlord" anyone on this site who has met me will tell you i'm far from acting the part. i don't drive a benz i drive a subaru, a used one at that.i'm a very humble man who usually gives sht on this site away, never asking for a thing. i'm sorry if my success erks you but sht happens and i fell in the pile. i've been through too much in my life to let you and others bash it or the people of my state. you tend to let your mouth run a lot sir and it's time to have it checked.
speaking of checked ezmoney maybe if you check your facts you'll see i'm right and it's not crazy talk. but hey if all your info is from fox crazy maybe be the word for it.
i'm sorry i made it and others haven't but i won't sit by and btch because someone lost their home. i'd rather do the right thing and help anyway i can. so if you don't like it hate away it won't get you anywhere

    As I said, you're confused.

It wasn't that the man was upset about his houses and Benz, it was that he's concerned about his property while other people are losing far more- Loved ones or even their own lives.

And no, I'm not the one who screams "oh is me im a landlord". That's Dirtcrasher. But even if that were me, I fail to see what that would have to do with any of this.

You should invest some of that hard-earned money of yours in some Hooked on Phonics. I can hardly make out what you're trying to say Richie.

There's a HUGE difference between living in "tornado alley" and living on the hurricane coasts. Tornado alley is basically the whole midwest. Even the largest tornadoes are only a half mile wide and your chances of getting hit by one are 1 in a million. I've never even seen one(though I'd love to). How many people on the coast are affected by hurricanes every year? What are the biggest natural disasters caused by? If you live on the coast, for say 20 years, chances are probably 100% that you are going to be hit by a hurricane at some point.
