I love the gas tank......it looks like the old "turtle tank" on my 65 ironhead. The location of the carb makes it soooooo much easier to work on vs the typical location

We had a Kawi KE125 when I was younger at the cottage. Had the same type of set up. Kawi had a oil injection pump that was blocked off. We just mixed our fuel. I am sure yours will come out great. You always do great work. Props.

I got it so I could put both the Yamaha 90 and this on the back of the RV and "dork out" wherever we go.

All those old bikes were so much fun. XR, CT, GT, DR, DT, KD whatever. They weren't as cool as the RM, CR, KX and YZ bikes, but the cops went easy on them around our place, old men with rakes in hand didn't give you as dirty a look when you drove past on a quiet bike plus the scraps and bruises you got on this bikes usually healed a lot faster than they did on the ones earned on the racers.

Can't wait to see you work your magic on this one. Dork on :beer

I hear what you're saying fabs that to had smooth power.

Got this in the mail today. A ported 90 head, appears to have heavy duty springs and the intake has been ported to 27mm and even the exhaust has been ported to 26. This will go nice with the Big h&s stroker we picked up. Now waiting for a set of bored out cases, not sure how big.
Thanks to a bit of nudging to buy these from a fellow member here we were able to get these real cheap.

Dam- old oil tank, about 2/3 of one. Flip up tailgate. Gravity dump, axle at midpoint so balance and dump is good. Amateur welder it appears? On the tank/sealing up fill holes he went with braze (maybe to avoid burn though.) Front frame welds were reasonable, fender attachment points are meh but a difficult spot so maybe he was just due to the location. I’m gonna flip it upside down and look at that before I fix the lights, do wheel bearings, change tires and consider putting on road.

Generally a couple times a summer on saturdays I take the kids to the “grafton flea market” in mass. You wouldn’t believe how many venders are selling slightly used tools, and new. I don’t think anyone knows how to use them anymore....lots of old steel parts/tooling also. The kids get pissed cause I dig through boxes to find the good stuff cheap.

I try not to spend much on tools, I have two brothers that stop by to “borrow” things

ShepI was tearing down my forks today and thinking of what you said earlier. My snap ring pliers didn't break the tips off but they also kept slipping out of the holes in the snap ring just as I was about to squeeze them in enough to lift them out.

I ended up finding a set of needle nose pliers with good teeth in them that I sacrificed and ground down enough to fit snug in the ring holes. Worked way quicker than the snap ring pliers. Those snap rings are a beeotch

Mothman prophecies....

Sent from my Z958 using Tapatalk

By the way, if anyone is curious about a largely suppressed and amazingly interesting part of American history, find out the story of the Mothman. Many, many people swear he's real and I believe them. The story is nothing short of amazing, but the dramatic version, "The Mothman Prophecies", is a huge disservice to the actual true vents which are documented and did indeed occur. There is a great documentary on the subject called "Eyes of the Mothman" and there's a book called "Mothman: Behind the Red Eyes". It's far too much of an amazing true story to not be aware of. Sometimes reality can be just as crazy as science fiction.

Now now Nico, I don't know how you can find something more credible than something you're unaware of. The Jersey Devil is certainly nothing to be scoffed at but the Mothman story I dare say is far more interesting and spans a long length of time and has an amazing number of twists and turns as well as tons of credible and corroborated eye witness accounts. It all culminates to a disaster which takes the lives of 46 innocent people in one fell swoop. You couldn't write a movie like this because nobody would believe it. This story, however, is true.

I have not yet seen the wolf/dog, no.

I didn't catch anything about Mothman deaths in my glace at wiki, but found it on the second search. I do recall reading years back that the Jersey Devil had landed in town during some sort of public event and that it was reported in a local paper. I find group sightings more credible than single or double person accounts.

Until Mothman has a pro hockey team named after him I'm sticking with the Jersey Devil.

LOL! Gay is Gay in Spanish. Guey evolved from Buey that Glamy still uses, old school pocho that he is. Buey means Ox and isn’t something you want to be called, but in Northern Mexico Guey has become a term of endearment pretty much replacing the word Amigo. It’s used kind of like the N word amongst the brothers and is off limits till you know someone pretty well.

Trailer? Thought you had a new one?

I bent the axle on my way home from Trikefest 2016. I then replaced it with a brand new one (which is this one), and I immediately bent it on my first trip out with the new axle. I'm very glad to find that I can straighten them now but kicking myself for throwing the old one away and spending hundreds of dollars on a new one.

Triple axle 35' toy hauler. I could see it was bent by looking at it but I knew what to look for from the one that bent already, and I also knew it had taken a hard hit. If you laid a straight edge along the sides of the tires it was really easy to see.

It was loaded heavy and I hit a huge pot hole. It doesn't help that the previous owner of the trailer destroyed the back door/ramp, so he built a door from structural steel which is extremely heavy and the definition of the word overkill. Stupid.

Also, the trailer is supposed to have load range D tires on it, but I insisted on load range E when I got new tires because this thing is super heavy. If it had the correct tires on it, there is a chance that they would have absorbed the bump instead of making the axle bend. There is also the chance the pot hole would have blown a lesser tire right off and caused even more damage, but who knows?

You missed everyone "liking" a post by William which essentially said the very same thing I said in my very first post in the Anthony and Kate thread. Funny, nobody liked it when I said it. To me that says a lot. You missed me giving Bryan the argument he wanted so badly and losing my shite in the process.

When something bothers me in my life, I eliminate it from my life. This forum became very bothersome to me yesterday. To see my "friends" appreciate the same thing I said but only when someone else says it tells me a lot. Maybe I'm on here too much, maybe nobody wants to align themselves with me for whatever reason they have, but it's bullshit that I get someone dragging me into an argument for something I said, then that very same person can agree with the same thing I said only when it's said by someone else. I have a lot of friends, and I don't care if I do or not. I can afford to lose some. Thanks for the push Bryan, love it when people get me fired up. Should be nice and quiet on here for a while now.

My birthday was today and my wife and I have been in Texas for vacation. Today we went from the coast to kingsville where the largest ranch in the US is 865,000 acres and where the leather comes from for the ford king ranch trucks. Ended up in San Antonio and we are staying across the street from the Alamo. Very cool and great day.

Toured the Alamo this morning, very humbling experience for sure. Went to the hill country of Texas from there. We went to a town called Banderas TX. One thing I've noticed when visiting this town is that these Texans are very proud people and I mean very proud. It was kind of cool to listen to this lady speak about their heritage and beliefs in that area, very very proud people for sure. So we have ended up at my kids house here in Austin before heading to Waco in the morning.

Hill Country is an amazing place. You could spend a month out there and not see all the cool stuff. The Twisted Sisters are as good a place as any to get rid of the chicken strips on your sport bike tires. I hope you made it to Fredricksberg.

Fishing later
Day off so went to a property I own and did some digging for the tenant who is expanding his business.
Due to location, 5 gal pails of dirt and a short hike. After 10 bucketsx20 trips I was done. I bought a dump insert to use as a pseudo dump truck. Just use the crane to drop in place and then pin. Takes about a minute to install.

Starting to rehab an ironworker I picked up last week. New magnetic switch and lines to the motor. It started as just a switch but on the first start = Arc flash and Bam! Breaker trips. Figured I had a bad switch so I jumped it. First time it started, second =same tripping. Found a short in the conduit running to the motor. Up and running and now it needs a hydraulic line.

Also ran out and picked up the sawmill I bough a while back.

Got a bit roasted in a surge and we lost the gazebo in a big winter storm. Settled up w insurance and the new gazebo arrives Monday. That gives me till the 5th to get the deck down at leas as the tub arrives then. 14 family members for the weekend (ugh) but that will allow for plenty of help to complete the kit. Old tub is going back with delivery guys but i will harvest what I can.

Lobsters and clam bake catered for only forty a head? You must live near the east coast.

Add 20 ea for a Kentucky meal like that and I guarantee the lobsters that make it all the way here are all half the size of what you get and most certainly the east coast rejects.

I'm a seafood lover. I was never more disappointed in Midwestern seafood until I ate in various joints in Massachusetts, Long Island, coastal NC, and Maryland and found out that for half the price of the crap sold here, I got much larger lobsters, crabs, fish, shrimp, and clams.

Loaded fan back into 79 Ford, then ford died 1/2 way to the store. No spark, msd crapped out= tow to garage...

That's not good. The whole reason to update the ignition from that dura spark crap is to make it more reliable.

Did Ford make something that bolts on, or would that be 100% aftermarket?

460 80 over and then stroked. D0VE block, converted to 4 bolt main. First time I stomped on it, popped out 3 freeze plugs ( still some flex in that block!). So tapped it for solid plugs, it never sees cold weather anyway

I recall reading that partially filling those blocks with Devcon liquid steel was a must for serious drag duty.

As my weekend hauler in the summer, I wasn’t sure about cooling issues. The solid plugs seem to be holding. I also went with iron heads that I had opened up 2.02/1.79 iirc and then ported. Less reliability issues tho this spark thing surprised me

Update: distributer gear got eaten

Nice gazebo plastikos, the roof looks like it’ll be “fun” to put together. All cedar and precut, with hardware? Price tag if you don’t mind me asking? Guessing $4,500 give or take?

Ive been in the market for one but it may be cheaper to go that route then start from scratch.

Oh and for you coon lovers out there, this one was stuck in the wifes dumpster at work. All the trash has been piled outside of it cuz the ladies were to scared to go near it..... all it needed was a trash bag or two to get out/ has been stuck there for three days:cry: I freed him today though 253423 253424 I think he fell through the old plastic covers when empty and got trapped in.

Oh how my kids loved those driving lessons at Dad's School of Aggressive Driving.
We would go to the empty parking lots and I quickly learned they had no feel behind the wheel. I grew up riding 3-wheelers and mowing grass on riding lawn mowers at 10 years old so I had the vehicle control down by the time it was time to drive.

I would set up empty bottles (trash people left behind) and make them drive towards it but they could not hit the brakes until I told them to. I would wait until the last second and yell STOP!!!!
They would run over it the first few times until they got a feel for the pedal.

Then we would do the same thing except I would yell RIGHT or LEFT and they had to swerve around it.
Again, they hit it the first few times but soon got a feel for the response of the wheel.

When we finally hit the road I made them go through a routine of repeating what was in front of them, behind (rear-view), left mirror, right mirror.
They hated that....... 1 car in front and 2 more in front of them.....all clear behind me.......still 3 in front .....clear to the left........clear to the right.....repeat.
When they got used to that I would say, "Left" and they had to tell me car or clear.......they had to know.....not check their mirror and then tell me. It was all about them knowing what was around them at ALL times. If you have to swerve or make a move, you better know.

It was fun and they liked the empty parking lot lessons. We smashed plenty of empty water bottles and beer cans.

Finally found an appropriate piece of scrap at the scrapyard to alter this particular project.
This is a forklift jib/boom. Extendable out to 12’ or so. There are models of these that you can pull a pin and they tilt for more height/lift. The prior owner had welded on accessory fork pockets that were at 45° to the factory pockets to mimic the lift feature. While not as convenient in regards to the tilting models, I got it for a good price. The issue is that the accessory pockets were really sized for a much smaller machine and my forks did not fit in the pockets. Now to accessorize the accessory and add on some 36”x 3”x8” by3/8 tube. The 6’ scrap piece is 135lbs.
Today was just cutting in half. Next to clean and weld

So today after work we drug out a 90 we picked up a few weeks back. Wanted to see if had spark, it did and as you all know all we need is spark and fuel for a motor to run. Well after a carb disassembly and cleaning we were riding around the yard. Unfortunately the timing chain is out of adjustment and needs replacing.
On to trike 2, no tires so we thru it in back of the j.d. trailer and hauled it up to the shop. Had spark, didn't even clean the carb on this one, got fuel to the carb pulled the rope she fired up, never would have guessed that one.
You got to love these old 90 and 110's, so simple and basically bullet proof.
Watch out Shortline we are may be catching your yearly trike number.

Contemplated how cheap I am. Instead of throwing out old bed rails I grind and punch the rivets out to make cheap angle iron for non-critical project like the dunnage box on my crane truck.

That's not cheap that's using what you've got. I love seeing stuff that most people would throw away turned into something useful.

Now ordering water at a nice restaurant and stealing the lemons from the abandoned tea glasses at the table next to you and making lemonade with the Splenda packets, is cheap. Bonus points for asking them for their lemons while they're still sitting there

Got a 40ft 4wd 2000 jlg for the same money. 3500 hrs, diesel. Weight is 11,600 so if I want to haul it will be a cdl I guess. Still much more convenient for around the farm use. I have hauled the trailer one zero time in the past 3 yrs of ownership
225$ to haul it today 30 miles. Not terrible

Seeing all these tractor and equipment pics made me wanna share what my last few weeks have consisted of. I went from not having any tractors to having two! The old Ford has a very cool history behind it. My father in-law's grandfather bought the tractor when it was only a couple years old and was farmed with until the mid 90s. The tractor had sat out in a hedgerow until I brought it home a few weeks ago. My father in-law gave it to me as a wedding gift haha. A few hours of tinkering and I got it running like a dream. The Kubota I purchased last Friday for CHEAP. Dirt cheap actually because it needed a clutch. I drove it home down the dirt roads and split it the next day. I just got it back together this morning and moved a whole pile of gravel with it. First Kubota I have ever split, seemed far easier than alot of the Deere's I have split in the past.

Today I put New Kenda Bear Claws on th front of my 2003 Honda Recon. Next I put handlebar mounts on th Recon & my 85 Honda 250SX for Garmin eTrex Vista GPS units. I love th old skool GPS units as trip computers. Then I "repaired" the Recon seat with spray on Plasti-Dip. She only had a tiny section of seat damaged. I put on three coats. It's my first time trying this. I hope it works. I plan on riding the Recon tomorrow locally.

edit: The Plasti-Dip did work and adhered to the exposed seat foam. I did ride the Recon today for 5+ miles in deep woods that are mountainous, swampy, muddy & rocky. The Bear Claws up front did very well. I did two small river crossings later also. That washed some mud off the quad. My GPS batteries crapped out while riding in the first few minutes. I powered it back up & it lasted a couple of miles. I had a Good Day Today!

Welp. Just came off my week of vacation on Lake Huron. Weather was good. Rented a cottage for $1400.00 CAD for the week. It had a nice open area on the main level. Basic cable, wifi, 2 bathrooms,3 bedrooms. city water and sewer. We were not right on the water but just across the road from the water. Beach pics are from just down the road with the sand. I know some pics will be sideways. Sorry about that. Looks good when I post.

Sorry to hear about your cat. He looked awesome.

Coyotes are bad around here. Legal to shoot in Kentucky too I believe. I worked with a guy who said he hunts coyotes at night with a full night vision scope setup on a AR15 .

I live in a rural area so we have bears and big cats, and feral dogs crossed with coyotes here as well and people losing pets to coyotes is now very common even in towns and larger cities.

Cool machine
I thought of getting a mechanical but went with hydraulic. What was the issue with it?

Unless you were thinking of changing career paths and getting into high-volume metal production, you made the right choice by going with the hydraulic. They are so much simpler and way, way, way safer if you have people in the shop that can get at them without proper training.

The issue with this one is that some one during the past 60 some years decided to start greasing the mechanisms rather than using the proper heavy duty mineral oil. This caused the mechanism that releases the punch following a head to lock up and continue cycling with the machine and not stopping

It was purchased by my buddy/supplier about 10 years ago from P/H Crane After he did some work for them. It had been sitting outside for an unknown period of time prior to that.

They had tried to contact Buffalo for a service manual five or six years ago and an issue came up that I’m not going to discuss until I hear both sides of the story, but I really doubt that it is true having spoken with the owner and his wife numerous times this past few weeks. They really do seem like nice people.

I don’t know all the proper terms, but basically there is a counter balanced pawl that is supposed to allow the ironworker to cycle without activating the punch mechanism and the pins that move it into the engaged position seized up with dry grease and scaled surfaces and held it in the active position.

I polished the pins as well as the internal doors and everything looks like it will work fine now.

That's a good try Shep!.......

Are the splines cast at the factory or were they like forged or something? Either way your attempts always turn out winners down the road.

Shep1970
09-09-2018, 02:23 PM
The splines are machined in afterwards, with a costly machine tool I’m guessing.
Aluminum won’t work as a kicker if it could I’d just use the kickshaft in the sand then remove the knuckle while pouring and molten alum would form perfectly around it.(then remove) Sadly the alum would just strip out on kicking over I’d amagine.
Tried looking on that utube, there’s not many vids on inner spline machining.

Ok got the charging circuit up and running on my Wisconsin thd project. Dunno what i am gonna do with the darn thing! Today, a flywheel change and putting in the stator and various rectifiers, etc.
I am getting 34v AC off one wire and 22vDC off another, by the time it filters down it is 7-8vDC to the ammeter (2000 rpm.) Maybe this is a 6v system? Or bad rectifiers etc. this is the 3 unit system and it is hard to find anything about what I should see/read/test.
